Designs showing what a major overhaul of the Harrington Park playground in Riccarton will look like have been approved.

 A large play structure featuring a mega tunnel slide, nets, monkey bars, a fireman’s pole, a climbing wall, and stepping posts is proposed for the park. A wobbly-wood bee rocker, new flying fox, a birds nest carousel, a mega swing set, a bike and scooter stand, picnic tables, and 13 trees also feature in the plan. The cricket net, basketball court and the bulldozer will remain in their current locations.

The renewal is a result of the playground’s equipment nearing the end of its life span. Consultations on the plan had 17 submissions, with 10 supporting the plan, five supporting but with concerns, and two opposed.
