Wharenui School in Matipo St, Riccarton, is to receive a new classroom.

It's one of three schools in the western suburbs to get new classrooms -- the others are Hornby Primary and Gilberthorpe School.

Wharenui principal Gretchen Smith says the school is delighted to be receiving a new space, but does not have details on when it will arrive.

She says the space is needed as the school's roll has grown from more than 100 to a fluctuating number, peaking at 350 since May 2011.
